In North Yorkshire there's a pub that claimed to have a cursed chair, and anyone who dared sit in it would suffer an untimely death soon after. It had supposedly been the favourite chair of the murderer Thomas Busby. When he was arrested for criminal activity as well as murdering his accomplice Father-in-law in 1702, legend has it that he cursed the chair as he was taken away and was gruesomely gibbeted at Sandhutton Crossroads. Overlooking the scene was an inn that was at some point renamed Busby Stoop and acquired the 'death' chair where it resided for centuries. As much as people disbelieved the curse, it did appear that many who sat on it died not long after. The landlord to be on the safe side put it down in his cellar to stop it being a danger to the public, but even down there a couple of people did and died unexpectedly shortly after. The landlord decided to get rid of it altogether and in 1978 donated it to a museum in Thursk, where it resides to this day, but hanging high up from the ceiling so there's no opportunity for anyone to accidentally or inadvertently sit on it!! Interesting story!
